4 WAYS TO KEEP YOUR CAR’S INTERIOR COOLER THIS SUMMER
Posted by Zane Winberg on
As we start to enjoy the more abundant sunlight and warmer temperatures, we start to remember some of the drawbacks of summer time. Our drinks get warm and flat in our cars. Crayons and chapstick melt. Seat belt buckles scorch. And if you’ve got black leather seats… well, good luck. Actually, there are a few things you can do to make your car a little more comfortable during the hot summer months. Today we’re sharing 4 ways to keep your car’s interior cool and comfortable, even on the hottest day in July.
4 Ways to Keep Your Car’s Interior Cool
1. Park Smart. Parking will make or break your car’s interior during hot summer days, so spend a little extra time choosing a spot. Park in a garage or under a cover whenever possible. Even a little bit of shade will make a difference. If you do have to park in direct sunlight, try to predict where the sun is headed, and park so that the direct sunlight is on the rear or passenger side. This will keep your seat and steering wheel just a little cooler.
2. Ventilate. Cracking your windows even a little bit can help baking air escape from the interior of your vehicle. Then cruise with the windows down as you drive away - it will help circulate air more quickly. If you want to go a step further with your windows, tinting them can eliminate the amount of rays making it into your car’s interior.
3. Covers. If your black or dark interior is often too hot to touch, it’s time to invest in some covers. A window cover or sunshade is a great idea for your windshield. You can also get steering wheel, dashboard, or seat covers depending on what your needs may be. The covers will prevent you from touching a lightning hot surface in your car. If you don’t want to spend a lot, but your car’s interior is just so hot when you have to park in the sun, simply store an old beach towel and a hand towel or two under your seat. Place them on your hot seat or steering wheel until it cools enough to touch
4. Recharge Your AC. When was the last time you had your car’s air conditioning looked at or charged? Charging a car’s air conditioning refreshes the system and it’s ability to cool the air it’s pumping. That means no more warm air blowing right into your face when you’re already sweating! What you need is an icy blast, and recharging your AC is quick, affordable, and so so nice on a hot summer day.
You don’t need to melt like a popsicle in your own car - take a few extra steps to keep your car cool (don’t forget to check for candy, crayons, or chapstick!) and enjoy a more comfortable car this summer.
